There are 5 animals and 2 insects who work for you on your island.
For the animals, you purchase their pen, then fill it by purchasing up to 5 (max) animals per pen.
Tap/Click anywhere in pen to bring up the pen menu. Anything in full colour is "ready to go", anything greyed out means not ready or don't have the supplies to feed. Tap basket to gather, tap food to feed.
Tap Razor to Shave, Tap food to feed.

The Bombyx and The Bees
Bombyx live in houses, bees live hives. Purchase these in your shop, up to your maximum for each.
Bees produce honey by gathering nectar from the honey bushes (see Trees & Bushes). They take it back to their hive and turn it into honey for you to collect. Honey is used in mills to make recipes. Each hive can send out 2 bees, which you purchase. Tap on hive to bring up menu. Same as animals above, if honey pan is in full colour it's "ready to go", greyed out means not ready.
Bees collect 70 nectar to make a pan of honey. To collect honey, tap or click on coloured pan and swipe across hive.
If your bees have stopped gathering, they have run out of nectar to gather. Hive will indicate this with a chat bubble of a honey flower.
Head to your shop, click on the Trees Tab.
Purchase more Honey Flowers.
When bushes are depleted of their resources, they die.
Hives get dug up with a shovel.
This in turn produces a Stone Block (used in recipes at mills and mainly for Silo upgrade.)
Bombyx {or Silkworm, I had to Google it, knew what a silkworm was, not a Bombyx!} produce silk by eating mulberry bush leaves (see Trees & Bushes). They take it back to their house and turn it into silk for you to collect. Silk is used in mills to make recipes. Each house can send out 2 bombyx, which you purchase. Tap on house to bring up menu. Same as animals and bees above, if silk bobbin is in full colour it's "ready to go", greyed out means not ready.
Bombyx collect 140 leaves to make a bobbin of silk. To collect silk, tap or click on coloured bobbin and swipe across house.
Like bees, they will let you know if they have run out of materials to gather from. Purchase more from your shop under Tree Tab.
When bushes die, saw down with a 2-man saw and collect mulberries! (Used in mill recipes.)
